The Challenge
JBS was contracted by a major North Sea Oil & Gas client to expose mattresses and grout bags aboard the MV Island Valiant for a decommissioning project in the Southern North Sea.
The Solution
Using the vessel’s main crane and tuggers on either side of the moonpool, we attached the Sea Axe for sonar orientation and stability.
Our umbilicals were secured to the vessel crane, rolling over our roller fairlead and fastened at the centre edge of the moonpool area.
His was the first moonpool deployment for Sea Axe, which proved to be highly accurate and stable, allowing us to maintain our position over designated excavation areas while the Island Valiant remained steady.
Conclusion
During operations through the vessel’s moonpool, JBS successfully completed the deburial of mattresses and grout bags, enabling the client’s team to recover all units safely and efficiently.
Sea Axe was deployed directly above the located areas, carefully exposing the mattresses and grout bags without causing damage. This precision ensured safe lifting to the deck without breaking up or dropping mattress materials.
